Priya Challa is currently a junior pursuing degrees in both Aerospace Engineering with a concentration in Astronautics, and Earth and Space Exploration with a concentration in Astrophysics. Her research with Dr. Patrick Young consists of the analysis of stellar spectra in order to gain information about chemical abundances in nearby stars. The primary goal of this research is to understand how different stars vary from the Sun, and to find other stars that have similar characteristics to the Sun as well as stars with high abundances of elements conducive to life. These stars are more likely to be host to habitable planets with chemical compositions that can give rise to life and so they are prime targets in the search for life beyond Earth.
