An enrichment program for 3rd-8th grade minority and female children designed to empower youth with the confidence to pursue professions within the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Michael Thompson is a graduate PhD student in the mechanical engineering department at Arizona State University and will partner and work with his educational outreach advisor, Zell Fowler, President of Arizona Alliance of Black School Educators with the STEAM (Science, Technology, Arts, and Engineering & Mathematics) Enrichment Program at Grand Canyon University (GCU). Thompson is also the academic director for the society of Hispanic professional engineers and over the course of the program will be engaged with others from the SHPE community to be more involved in the STEAM program. The program teaches and provides students with learning opportunities about aerospace engineering principles and uses a hands on approach building micro air vehicles mechanical birds.
