Marie Nahlik is a senior at ASU majoring in biochemistry working with Dr. Hilairy Hartnett to study the ways people interact with their environment and the effects of these interactions in the Phoenix area. Marie's specific project involves comparing the concentration of black carbon in residential areas characterized by different land use types and economic status. Black carbon is the byproduct of incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, biofuels, and biomass. This study aims to further understand the ways that the environment is affected by both landscaping practices and economic status.
