Nomination

In the first step of the review process, student applicants are ranked and selected on merit. In the second step, top ranked students are matched with best fitting mentor proposals. If you already have a student identified for this proposed project - and that student has submitted an Internship application - you can nominate that student to be matched to this project.

Please Note: To be eligible for an internship, student must be US citizens and full time sophmore students or higher at ASU.

If you have a particular student in mind, nominate them here.

Note: All nominated students must complete a student Internship Program application form.

If you have nominated a specific student and he or she does not get selected for an Internship, would you be willing to mentor another student?

Yes No Maybe - please contact me first.

Funding Assistance

The ASU/NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Research Internship program works hard to engage the largest number of students possible. Each year we are able to extend the internship funding base to a larger group of undergraduates through much appreciated financial assistance provided by those of our mentors who are able to split-fund their interns. Full-funding an intern for 40 weeks at 10hrs/week amounts to about $3,708 while split-funding half the costs amounts to about $1,854.*

Please note that cost-share is not considered in either the ranking/selection of interns or in the process of matching those students to mentor projects.

Yes (I am willing to pay one half of the student's support) No (I am unable to provide cost share at this time)

*These Space Grant Internship cost estimates are based on the standard Space Grant wage of $ 9.00/hour and the Fall 2008/Spring 2009 ERE rate of 3%. Interns can work for 10 hours/week.

An important goal of NASA Space Grant is to promote science, technology, engineering, and math [STEM] literacy to the public through informal education activities or the production of informal education materials. For science and engineering applicants, informal education will be separate from the research project. For other applicants, the informal education may be a key component of the main project proposal.

All students are expected to do 15 hours a semester of Informal Education. These hours are to be included as part of their internship hours and come out of Space Grant funds.

Note: All nominated students must complete a student Internship application form. For more information on mentoring a student, please see Mentor Information and Responsibilities under http://nasa.asu.edu/opportunities/mentors/.
