The ASU/NASA Space Grant Program employs approximately 30 full-time sophomore or higher undergraduate students 10 hours per week for the academic year in programs working alongside upper-level graduate students, diverse faculty members, as well as scientists and engineers. We seek applications from all academic disciplines and encourage applications from underrepresented groups and women. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
Interns are awarded for the academic year at a wage of $9.00 per hour.
The program supports undergraduates who are interested in earth and space science by giving them opportunities to earn money while gaining valuable experience participating in research projects and educational outreach activities. ASU/NASA Space Grant Interns are required to complete an outreach project as part of their internship. The program also provides excellent opportunities for non-science majors to broaden their education.
The Space Grant Steering Committee screens proposed projects and match faculty mentors with appropriate students. Student and mentor applications are solicited separately. Alternatively, mentors may nominate a specific student whom they have selected. If the student and project are selected for inclusion in the Space Grant Program, there is the option for the mentor to split-fund the student with Space Grant. In this option, the student would be split-funded equally by the mentor and Space Grant. In all cases, both the proposed projects and the students are selected by the Steering Committee for appropriateness to the program and to achieve overall program balance.
